Surprise Medical Billing Protection
When you get emergency care or are treated by an out-of-network provider at an in-network facility, you are protected from surprise billing.
What is Balance Billing?
Balance billing occurs when a provider bills you for the difference between their charge and what your insurance pays. Federal law protects you from this in many situations.
Your Protections
- You are only responsible for your normal cost-sharing amounts (copayments, coinsurance, deductibles).
- Your health plan will pay out-of-network providers and facilities directly.
- Emergency services must be covered without prior authorization.
- Providers may not ask you to waive these protections.
